Happiness IS a choice (after a bit of wallowing)

Have you read the book, Happiness Is A Choice? It really is... most of the time. If you've been a subscriber of my newsletter long enough, you know I'm a realist in that - "things are what they are" and there's no faking it for me. BUT, I do believe that happiness is a choice. It's getting to a frame of mind that helps you make that choice that is the battle.

Sometimes we just need to wallow for a bit before we can pull ourselves out or allow others to help pull us out. I believe we're allowed to wallow for a bit until we feel like we've gotten it out of our system. But once we're done, make happiness the next choice.

Here are some simple tips on how:

1. Get the issue that brings you down out of the way. Give yourself a short period of time to wallow and be done. Go to a private place and yell or cry. Pound the pillow if you have to. If you have a best friend who you are safe with, vent to them.

2. Take yourself out or watch a "feel good" movie. I personally go to Starbucks when I need a pick me up and my husband isn't home. If my husband is home he takes me to Starbucks and/or Best Buy and gets me out of the house. If he knows I just don't want to go out he brings home a happy movie and something I love to eat but haven't had in a while or he'll bring me flowers.

3. Meditate with some calming, peaceful music. I put on worship music. Someone once told me that if you're singing worship music, it's hard to stay upset. They were SO right! Find music that soothes your soul or get with a yoga instructor. But find something!

4. Think of memories that warm your heart. If you're feeling down about yourself, reminisce about the things that made you feel good along your path. If you're feeling down about something else, think of how you can resolve it. If you can't move on. I've learned that it's those things we hold onto and can't fix that drain us.

Happiness is a choice. Just get past the impeding problem and choose happiness. Do what you have to do to take control of your feelings and enjoy life.
