Work Smart On the Phone
- Plan specific time to use the phone. Discipline yourself to
actively make good use of your phone time each day. Make sure
it is a quiet time when you can call without noise that would
be distracting to you or your customer.
- Group your calls. Instead of calling whenever the mood strikes,
group as many routine calls as you can into your scheduled calling
time. You will have plenty of other calls that have to be made
at odd times to catch people at home. This technique will keep
your distractions to a minimum.
- Be a bright spot in someone's day. You probably enjoy bubbly,
happy people on the other end of the line when you make calls.
Be one of them. Smile as you speak. It will show through. Your
enthusiasm will be much appreciated and will result in more sales
and bookings.
- Be organized. Have everything in front of you or know right
where it is. Your planner, order forms, writing utensils, product
brochures, the business plan, etc. This will be much less confusing
for you and for your customers. After all, if you are running
a business, you should sound like you know what you are doing
while on the phone.
